One of my first weddings photographing since moving from California to New York City, Clara & Abe’s wedding at Shell’s Loft in Fort Greene, Brooklyn gave me another incredible venue to explore and a dream team to work alongside. Shot across digital (Canon + Leica) and 35mm / 120 film, the gallery carries a mix of texture, spontaneity, and softness I love.
Gloomy weather settled over most of the day, but the sun kept peeking through during their ceremony, pouring into the space through the venue’s sunset-facing windows. To avoid an accidental dress reveal to her parents, we hid away in the bar kitchen for their intimate portraits instead of the garden we had originally planned. Improvising in moments like that is part of what takes a photographer from good to great — finding something unexpected, a little wilder, more editorial, more behind-the-scenes than cookie-cutter.
Because my team and I were shooting across several different cameras and formats, I wanted the final gallery to resist feeling visually uniform in every corner of the venue. Embracing those differences and editing in a way that honored multiple perspectives felt essential to telling this story in a more personal, perfectly imperfect way — while keeping the images playful and alive.
